Meet the Performers

2010 Electric Youth, Mike ~ Age 17

My favorite things have always been to sing and dance. I took my first drama course at FSPA when I was in 6th grade and just kept going. I was encouraged at FSPA to take singing and dancing classes and now I’m in 4 dance classes, 2 performing troupes and do as many musical theater productions as I can. I have studied jazz for 5 years, tap for 3 years, and hip hop for 4 years. I knew I wanted to be a member of Electric Youth when I first found out about it, and when I was in the 8th grade, I auditioned and ended up getting in which was such a shock. I have loved it ever since and encourage people to at least try the audition because the practice alone is worth it in the end. I love the travel, the friendship and being on stage. What I like about being on tour is being surrounded by really good friends who are always there for one another. My favorite tour memory would have to be from the first year when Pat and I still had not adjusted to the time change. We went to bed and subconsciously and got up at 1:00 am thinking it was 7. We showered, got dressed, packed our costumes and went to the hotel lobby. We saw our acting teacher Nick and a chaperone Guy there and they were like “you do know its only 1 am right”. We laughed so hard when we looked outside and it was pitch black. Another favorite memory was when Nick revealed the results of one of the many quizzes he gives and the question was. “If you had any superpower what superpower would you have?” My friend’s answer was she would have the power to touch people and make them beautiful because that way nobody would ever feel ugly or bad about themselves. It was perfect. My favorite EY song to perform is “Do You Love Me/Twist and Shout Medley” because I love seeing our entourage and the rest of the audience shuckin’ and jivin’ to the song.
EY has improved my endurance and strength onstage and given me the chance to improve my dance ability exponentially. It has opened my eyes to new horizons, provided different ways to express myself and a chance to discover that performing is what I really want to do in life. But my plans for the future are always changing. Right now I want to continue studying music in college and possibly study fashion so I can design my own clothes.
My role models are my parents but I also have Jill Gleason as a role model, who is a fellow EY member. I have always looked up to Jill, she has inspired me so much and I want to be as good a performer as her some day. Her dancing is flawless and she makes it seem effortless. I am going to miss her so much when she graduates.
